EARC Permanent Disabled Parking Permit Policy Change - Effective October 15, 2009

Please note, the EARC Permanent Disabled Parking Permit Policy has been amended.  For that reason, the information stated below is the current policy.

Please be advised regarding the following change in the Employment Accommodations Resource Center (EARC) permanent disabled parking permit policy.  Beginning October 15, 2009, the Employment Accommodations Resource Center (EARC) will no longer recognize the use of, or issue, EARC permanent disabled parking permit placards. This notice does not apply to persons with Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) issued disabled parking placards and only applies to persons who currently use an EARC issued permanent disabled parking placard. Note:  EARC issued disabled parking permits are only valid in SJSU disabled parking and are not valid in off-campus disabled parking.

Use of EARC issued permanent disabled parking placards after October, 15, 2009, will result in a ticket from SJSU Traffic & Parking. If you were approved for and given one of the said placards, we ask that you discontinue use and return it to the EARC at your earliest convenience. (See below for return information.)

To request a valid EARC issued disabled parking permit, please call the EARC at (408) 924-6003 or email earc@drc.sjsu.edu with your request.  You may be asked to submit updated contact information via the EARC Parking Intake Form.

Employees with Long-Term Disabilities:  Employees with current documentation verifying a long-term disability are eligible to receive an EARC issued disabled parking permit on a semesteral basis.  Employees with long-term disabilities may be asked for updated disability documentation to substantiate receipt of a disabled parking permit.

Employees with Permanent Disabilities:  Employees with permanent disabilities are encouraged to obtain a disabled parking permit via the DMVexternal link, as DMV placards can be used both on and off-campus.  However, upon request, employees with current documentation verifying a permanent disability are eligible to receive an EARC issued disabled parking permit on a yearly basis.

To return your EARC issued permanent disabled parking placard:

Please submit the placard via mail or in person in a confidential, sealed envelope with your full name, employee ID, and contact information by or before October 1, 2009, to:

Employment Accommodations Resource Center (EARC)

One Washington Square

San José, CA 95192-0168

For questions or concerns, please contact the EARC at (408) 924-6003 or earc@drc.sjsu.edu.
